Graduation Project LPL : London Public Library

PFC 2015/2016 Graduation Project Architecture ETSAV UPC

New London Public Library "LPL" fits naturally into the city and is a key point of access to all types of information. An institution redefines the classic concept of "library" is transformed into a modern warehouse of information that serves the evolving needs of different users.

The building is located in the gardens "Potter Fields" of 6000m2 and is the piece that completes the master plan of Norman Foster that began with the construction of "City Hall" (July 2002). The 18,000m2 Library contains different privacy levels throughout the building. A large hall welcomes visitors as a continuation of outdoor space, opening great views to "Tower Bridge". Spacious reading rooms and library work transformed into a space of coexistence, relations and meetings. Other smaller areas are used for activities with greater concentration and silence.
